When I lived in Lincolnshire, we had an unexploded bomb found in our back garden, and also, close to the boundary another in a neighbour's garden.

They were BRITISH 500LB bombs.

Apparently jettisoned bombs from bombers forced to abort mission and land shortly after take off in WW2, when there were 46 military airfields thereabouts.

They did not appear to have made any great effort to jettison them away from habitation.

They think Glenn Miller was killed by Bombers Jettison their bombs having failed on their mission. The plane he was flying in was notorious for having faulty navigation equipment and it is assumed the plane deviated off its flight path and ended up below where bomber crews ditched their bombs
